Audit & Risk

Meeting this evening which included some training on finances.  As Cllr Dick Barker used to be Vice Chairman of this committee, one minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect.  I expected the meeting to last a long time as there were several issues to deal with but all went very smoothly.  This committee does seem to be working closer and closer together.

Casino Update

Had a Conservative Group update this afternoon on current position regarding Casino process.

Hopton New Village Hall – Progress

Well, I went to the site this afternoon and fantastic progress has been made while I have been on holiday!  (I am surprised that they managed without me popping in on a regular basis!).

The roof struts are all in place and it is starting to look like a building!

Canvassing in Caister with Brandon Lewis, Cllr Ron Hanton and the Team

Had a good morning out and about in Caister.  Glorious sunshine and company made the morning just wiz by.  Had lots of positive comments on the doorsteps!

Conservative Group Meeting

I finally made it home after a long and gruelling group meeting.  I then had to find an alternative route as the Gapton Hall roundabout was closed with little or no signage telling you.  I had to go round the Tesco roundabout and then queue up to turn right to go along Southtown Road.  Not a happy chap!!

Busy Day at the Office?

It is strange how things group together?

Meeting in town hall at 2pm re A & R (Audit & Risk) then CCTV (Community Safety Co) at 4pm followed by  group meeting at 6pm.  Then home for dinner.

Hopton Youth Club Table Tennis Tournament

I have attached the photo of Josh Baker (winner) & Lewis Green 2nd place in last Fridays tournament.  It was hotly contested as were the two previous tournaments of darts and pool.

Josh is on the left of the photo with yours truly presenting him with the first prize of £10.  I was ably assisted by Youth Club Chairman Marion Hardisty.  Marion has worked tirelessly (as have many other volunteers!) to ensure that our very successful youth club continues to thrive.

Hopton Sea Defences

Spent most of this afternoon in meetings to ensure that I am up to speed on what presentation Peter Hardy of GYBC and Bernard Harris of GYB Services were going to present to Hopton Residents this evening.  I think the time was well spent as I was able to anticipate the reaction.  Difficult but important issue to deal with when one knows that the answers one is going to get are not the answers we all want to hear when some of our homes may be at risk.

Hopton PC Meeting – Update

I was right, the meeting was a tough one to chair but I hope I got it about right!  Too late now if I didn’t!!

Hopton Parish Council Monthly Meeting – Monday 8th March 7pm

Tomorrow’s meeting is shaping up to be an “interesting” event with lots of activity surrounding the sea defences issue and many people planning to attend.  Hopefully we will get all the facts out in the open so everyone knows what the position is!

It will be interesting to see how difficult it is to Chair this meeting!
