Hopton Village Hall Open Morning

- Parish Cllr Ken Hicks with the model of the new village hall that he built
Cllr Hicks has built three model village halls over the last 2 years each time the design changed he built another one to reflect the changes!
Hopton Village Hall Management Trust (with the support of Hopton Parish Council) have spent almost three years in preparing and submitting a grant application to the Big Lottery Fund for almost £½ million grant funding. The application was successful and building will commence in January 2010 with completion by August 2010. ‘The scale model of Hopton’s new Village Hall, built by Cllr Ken Hick so that the community can see the great progress being made on its behalf.’
The Hopton Community will benefit from this investment in many ways with the increased flexibility and facilities. Fundraising is still ongoing as the total cost of construction and fees is around £700,000. GYBC granted £50,000 towards the scheme and many people in the village have either made donations or conducted fundraising activities! But we still need more donations.
The building will have two halls, a kitchen, an office and the usual toilet facilities. The main hall roof will be two stories high so as to accommodate many additional activities such as Badminton, Basketball etc. The kitchen will have a serving hatch into the main hall so that, in the future, functions which require catering/bar facilities can be accommodated.
Some of the people of Hopton who have been involved in the fantastic fundraising activities who were present at the open morning on Saturday where several people came to see the new plans and model of the new village hall. Several questions were answered and lots of tea and biscuits were consumed!
January 5th is the planned build start in what is now the car park. The old village hall will be demolished when the new hall is close to completion and that area will be the car park. During the construction phase there will be no car park facilities at the hall,
